Description
Chateau Canon Chaigneau is a sublime Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation from the 21-hectare Néac plateau. The terroir is composed of clay, limestone, and iron deposits, similar to that of the greats from Pomerol. The nose of this wine is fresh and offers a small power with a complex array of aromas. Notes of fresh blackberry, violet, grey pepper, ripe berries, and varietal are all present. On the palate it is a fruity and juicy wine with a defined taste, gourmandize, fluidity, richness, and a good guideline. Notes of juicy strawberry, cassis, raspberry, plum, lilac, tonka bean, clay minerality, caramelization, and fresh blond tabaco are all present. Its tannins are powerful yet polished with a small straightness. This is a medium-bodied, fresh, and light-styled red plum focused wine that is best enjoyed over the next few years. Merlot makes up the majority of this blend, with Cabernet Franc and Malbec. On the nose it is floral with peony and broom, and a sweet core of deep cherry. On the palate it is intense, structured, and concentrated with violet, peony, blueberry, raspberry, tobacco, gunsmoke, and chalky minerality. This is a sophisticated, haute couture wine that has an abundance of ripe fruit, chocolate, and cherry overtones, with an effortless tannin texture and great length to finish.
